17^th August – ACT 40 United Act

Everyone bring one’s umbrella! ☂️

In Hong Kong, more than 2 million residents demonstrated in the streets on 16 June.
An historic general strike also took place on August 5^th.

Demonstrations are taking place several times a week, with individuals determined to defend themselves against repression and which are rocking the authorities.

Here are their five demands (1):
 Permanent withdrawal of the extradition bill;
 Withdrawal of the “riot” characterization;
 Unconditional release of all arrested protesters without charges;
 Independent investigation into police violence and abuse of power ;
 Carrie Lam to step down and implement full universal suffrage.

In Hong Kong, as with the yellow vests, arrests are increasing in the territory.
The people of Hong Kong are protesting to preserve their identity and their freedom.

Let’s show our support for Hong Kong, which is resisting in an organized way.
Using umbrellas to protect themselves from tear gas, lasers, helmets, let us pay homage to their inspiring creativity.

The Hong Kong protesters have shown their solidarity with the yellow vests movement, which fights for social justice, against political corruption and political and police impunity.

We are two democratic movements that are geographically distant but that respond to each other.

Let’s not miss this historic opportunity to show the world that France’s yellow jackets will not give up or give in.

We will be many. Don’t forget your umbrella!
